Law.com’s Daily Report recently examined why experienced Georgia defense lawyers are moving to the plaintiffs’ bar—and why Shane O’Neill and Johnny Friedman chose to build O’Neill Friedman.

The article discusses several changes affecting the legal profession, including rising caseloads, increasing demands on lawyers, and new technology that allows smaller firms to operate with capabilities once available only to much larger organizations.

But our decision ultimately came down to the work itself.

After decades handling complex, high-exposure litigation, we knew what kind of practice we wanted to build: one that gives lawyers the time and freedom to investigate cases thoroughly, develop the evidence creatively, and move each matter forward with purpose.

As Johnny explained to the Daily Report:

“The things we love to do really are investigate cases, be creative in building the facts from those cases and then telling the story.”

ONF was designed around that idea: storytelling. We deliberately maintain a selective caseload so that we can understand each case in detail, identify the facts that matter, and present them clearly—at deposition, at trial, and on appeal.

Our defense experience remains central to that work. It taught us how companies, insurers, and defense teams evaluate cases, develop strategy, and respond to risk. Today, we apply that experience on behalf of individuals and families.

The side of the courtroom changed. Our commitment to careful preparation, clear proof, and excellent legal work did not.
